Energy

Our economies are highly dependent on fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas to produce energy is a major contributor to climate change. The release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere from the burning of these fuels contributes to global warming, which in turn leads to climate change. Therefore, it is essential to support the transition to renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.

Energy plays a critical role in the sustainable development of Sub-Saharan Countries. Energy is the “golden thread that connects economic growth, increased social equity, and an environment that allows the world to thrive.” (UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon). In this regard, Gaia provides services on both on-grid and off-grid space:

  • Access to Energy;

  • Energy Efficiency;

  • Investment and Technology;

  • Business Development; and

  • Legal, Policy and Institutional Support.

Gaia has been involved in both the on-grid and off-grid spaces in Sub-Saharan Africa. We believe that we provide innovative solutions. In the off-grid energy market, we can provide support relating to the delivery of clean and affordable energy solutions to the country’s off-grid population. We work alongside partners in terms of improving access to information and setting quality benchmarks.

We are part of the Renewable Energy Association in Mozambique as well as the Mozambique Women in Energy. We aim to advocate for a better regulatory framework in the energy sector in the Sub-Saharan countries.
